Role Type:  Fixed Term Contract for the duration of the apprenticeship; full time

Your role 

The Trainee Laboratory Technician plays an important role in supporting in-vitro Genetic Toxicology studies by preparing reagents and media, calibrating equipment, maintaining accurate records, organising laboratory supplies, and helping to ensure our laboratories operate efficiently and to the highest standards.  

You'll receive full training and support from our experienced team, learning how to work within a GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) accredited laboratory and gaining insight into the critical work that supports scientific research and regulatory studies.  

Specifically, you will be:   

  • Supporting day-to-day laboratory operations, including media preparation, equipment calibration, stock control, receipt of deliveries, environmental monitoring, and general laboratory housekeeping.  
  • Learning and applying Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles to ensure high standards of quality, compliance, and accuracy.  
  • Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health & Safety requirements at all times.  
  • Maintaining accurate laboratory records and documentation with a high level of attention to detail.  
  • Organising and managing laboratory consumables to ensure supplies are available when needed.  
  • Working closely with scientists and technicians to support study work and laboratory activities.  
  • Developing new technical skills and scientific knowledge through practical training and on-the-job learning.

About you 

To join us as a Trainee Laboratory Technician, you will need: 

  • A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9-4 including Maths and English and Science.  
  • 104 UCAS points to include A-level Biology or Science T-Level 
  • Good Microsoft office skills, including Outlook, Word, and Excel   
  • A genuine interest in science and laboratory work.  
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.  
  • Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills.  
  • The ability to follow instructions and work accurately.  
  • A proactive and reliable approach to work.  
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
